Is driving a car with suspended registration an arrestable/towable offense in Georgia?
In sept I was pulled over for speeding. The officer informed me that my registration was suspended due to no insurance. At the time, I had a 3 yr old policy that not only automatically re-newed but was also set up on an automatic electronic payment drafted directly out of my checking account each & every month. I not only provided the officer with a full copy of my policy, but also insisted that he speak with a rep. from my ins. company who confirmed that I had full, non-lapsing coverage on the vehicle in question. Despite all of this, I was ARRESTED and my car was impounded. We have since discovered the ins. co. was reporting the wrong VIN # to the state. Despite going to court with bank statements, a letter from the ins. co. accepting responsibility, & a lawyer, the d.a. has yet to dimiss the case. I had to post a $830 cash bond in September & am now being told by the state clerk that my bond $ is non-refundable a fact she is claiming is non-negotiable. Does any of this sound right or legal. All cases I've researched on-line resulted in a citation & impond. Why was I arrested & why has it been 7 months with no resolution. And why won't my lawyer return my phone calls?
